If you're into strength training and you find yourself in Orlando, Florida.... you have to get in contact with Big Jim Flanagan. Jim's been in the fitness and strength business for over 40 years! Basically, he's seen it all. All of the trends....changes, for good or bad. Yet throughout all of the years, Flanagan has stuck by his guns and hasn't veered off course for the latest "workout of the month". Jim knows the principles of exercise physiology and put the information to work with people like Arthur Jones, the creator of the Nautilus machines and Dr. El Darden, an exercise physiologist, body builder, and author of a multitude of books and manuals on strength training.
Today, he's the director of operations for one of Orlando's favorite restaurants and top steakhouse... Del Frisco's Prime Steak & Lobster. How popular? Let's just say that the restaurant had one thousand reservations for New Year's Eve!!!!!
If that's not enough, he's also a distributor of Med-X Strength Training Equipment. And, as for working out, he owns one of the finest home gyms known to mankind. The gym has modern, state-of-the-art equipment and some refurbished original Nautilus machines. But, what really sets the home gym apart from others is the hundreds of photographs and posters...most autographed (with a personal note to Jim) by an incredible variety of famous people from all walks of life. And each photo tells its own story... as told by Jim Flanagan.
Before Jim and I sat down for the recording session of today's ASAP~Athletic Strength And Power Podcast, we stopped to eat at one of Jim's favorite diners: Shannon's Diner. The Soup of the day for that particular Friday was "Black-Eyed Pea/ Vegetable" which I had a large bowl full with a hamburger. A special recipe hamburger and the meat is ground fresh in the kitchen by the chef. I've got to tell you.... this is probably the best hamburger that I've had in the last twenty-five years. Therefore, Shannon's Diner gets ASAP Approval! In fact, I'm planning another trip to Orlando just to go back! Also, I need to get back there so I can train with Jim Flanagan at his home training center and watch a good western movie while recovering! (Jim's an avid western movie buff).Enjoy today's podcast.
