The late Ohio State legend football coach, Woody Hayes, would have "word power" sessions and quizzes back in the 1970's to further educate his Buckeyes and help them develop skills that would forever help them. He would certainly nod with approval regarding the 2016 version of the Ohio State Football team, for the players now take "nutrition quizzes".
Both Coach Urban Meyer and Mickey Marotti, who is the Assistant A.D. for Football Sports Performance, are adamant about their methods in developing the total football athlete. And no stone is left unturned, as they continue to seek out constant improvement. The successes that Meyer and Marotti have experienced didn't happen by accident. Their results stem from a continuous effort to make change for the better...... the Japanese have a term..... it's called kaizen.
As a result, Ohio State now has Sean McMickle on staff as the team's nutritionist. McMickle is a Registered Dietitian and is leaving a positive stamp on the current football squad. And after the grueling training session that I observed this week, there is no doubt that optimal recovery nutrition is required for the players. And that's where Sean McMickle's expertise lies!
