Oakland Raiders' Ricky Brown Continues ASAP Off Season Regimen/ Podcast

Raiders_logo_6

If you'd like to spend a day in Ricky Brown's shoes...you'd better be in a hurry. He does things fast.... very fast.  Of course, keep in mind, this guy was a track and football star back at Cincinnati Elder High School and it was running times like these that got people to notice:

  • 11.1 in the 100 meter dash
  • 22."something" in the 200 meter
  • 50.6 in the 400m

Oie_brown_action1_2 With that kind of speed and football talent to match it, it was on to Boston College to excel as a starting linebacker with some good friends of his, Nick Larkin (Cincinnati St. X) and Tom Anevski (Elder).... all three, by the way, trained extensively at ASAP~Athletic Strength And Power. And after all the games and bowl appearances ended, it was on to the National Football League. In fact, he's embarking on his third season with the Oakland Raiders. So when he's back in his hometown, don't be surprised to see him working out at ASAP @ The River's Edge. The facilities there include strength training equipment, CORE Training devices, indoor Field Turf athletic fields and, of course the watchful eye of Coach Ted Lambrinides.
In today's podcast, Ricky talks about training camp in Napa Valley, his current workout regimen and some info on his nutrition program where "breakfast is the most important meal of my day". Just click on Ricky's game photo above for the 10 minute interview.

Brose_baskets

When Chris Ensminger is not working his 6'10" frame towards the basket as a professional player in the EuroLeague, he's usually back home in Cincinnati...or in training at The Workout @ Covington, just across the Ohio River in Kentucky.  ASAP~Athletic Strength And Power has just what "der Grosseman" needs to keep his body in optimal shape for the rigors of pro sports.  In fact, ASAP Director Ted Lambrinides added cambered squat bars to the training regimens at both the facility in Covington and the new facility in Cleves, Ohio (Cincinnati's westside) ASAP @ The River's Edge. The bar has allowed Chris to work the all-important squat exercise to a much increased range of motion.

Oie_asap_logggooo_463_2 Hear all about it in today's ASAP Strength Training Podcast. Just click on the official ASAP PODCAST Logo.

Chris talks about:

Part_2_pic

With a following that's now worldwide, ASAP~Athletic Strength And Power has evolved into a physical training resource for coaches, physical educators, personal trainers and athletes. Our information base is huge. ASAP Director, Ted Lambrinides, with over 27 years of experience in the field, has developed professional relationships with many of the top coaches in sports. NFL, NCAA, NBA, MLS, MLB high school and amateurs, too. These coaches consult with Ted in order to make their particular programs the best that they can be. His ASAP program has examined all of the different types of training. He can advise on the Russian philosophy of training because.... he went to Moscow to study and share and exchange ideas at training symposiums held there. Furthermore, he has delved into the Olympic and explosive training movements to advise coaches on those aspects of training.....and on other types of training, like high intensity training, sometimes referred to as "H.I.T".  In fact, he spent many an hour discussing training with the late Arthur Jones at his Nautilus training center in  Deland, Florida and at Arthur's home.  Mixed Martial Arts? Not a problem.... he's worked with golden glove boxers, national champion kickboxers and Bando martial artists.

So, in carrying on the current tradition of providing up-to-the-minute training information, ASAP brings you Part Two of the interview with The University of Michigan's new Strength & Conditioning Coach, Mike Barwis. Part_two Just click on that Michigan logo for the final 8 minutes.

ASAP Strength Training Podcast: Cincinnati Princeton High School Strength Coach Mike Shibinski

Shibinski_014Oie_asap_logggooo_463

For over 25 years, Mike Shibinski has been working with top notch athletes at top notch programs. As a three sport athlete and football player at Cincinnati Elder High School, Mike learned the value of hard work and serious training. He honed his athletic skills playing college football for the Butler University (Indianapolis) Bulldogs. Soon after, Mike headed to Ohio State University to become a graduate assistant strength coach for the Buckeyes and a Master's Degree in the strength training and conditioning of athletes. He began his coaching career at Mansfield (Ohio) Malabar High School and before settling down at Cincinnati Princeton High School, he acquired state championship rings at the legendary Moeller High School and at the Cincinnati Academy of Physical Education (C.A.P.E.).

ASAP~Athletic Strength And Power caught up with Coach Shibinski on a visit to his home fitness center/ gym.  Be sure that if this "gym" wasn't in the basement of a home in a well manicured Cincinnati suburb, he could open up a training center here!

Today's podcast focuses on the accomplishments of this well known strength coach as well as taking a look into what it takes to establish a sound high school strength and speed program.

Oie_asap_logggooo_463
Midwest_ultrasound_4 ASAP~Athletic Strength And Power takes a look at sports medicine in today's podcast. Join ASAP Podcaster Ed Cicale and Midwest Ultrasound representatives Ken Bertke (Clinical Director of Cardiac Services) and Dave Parlato (Chief of Clinical Operations) in an in-depth discussion about affordable screening for sudden cardiac death through the use of ultrasound echocardiography. Essentially, they are taking pictures of the athlete's heart and from there a reading and analysis is completed by a cardiologist at The Christ Hospital here in Cincinnati.Hospital_3 High school trainers are very interested in this technology due to the detection of conditions that can't be seen on the playing field or through a typical pre-participation physical examination. The "echo" can determine if there is a pathology.

ASAP~ Athletic Strength And Power Podcasts: Illinois Football Coach Ron Zook

Oie_asap_logggooo_463 Click on the ASAP Logo for today's podcast.

The St. Xavier High School Strength & Conditioning Clinic was a successful event. Carlo Alvarez, who is the strength and conditioning coach of Ohio's reigning #1 football squad, played host to this clinic where Ken Leistner was the Master of Ceremonies and ASAP Director Ted Lambrinides was one of the seminar's speakers.  The  clinic awarded  CEU's  in accordance with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).Ron_zook_2

Kicking off the clinic was the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year (2007), Ron Zook of The University of Illinois where he serves as the Head Football Coach. Coach Zook had a very nice presentation along the theme of "Competition" and had some good videos to share which depicted the competitive situations that he gets his players into during the off-season. In fact, after watching that video of the players battling to exhaustion in a truck tire drill, it's easy to see why their nicknamed the "Fightin' Illini".

After his talk, Coach Zook spent some time with ASAP Podcaster Ed Cicale.... discussing a little bit about his days at Miami University (Ohio), known as the "Cradle of Coaches", where the Redskins only lost one game in three seasons while he played defensive back there. Coach also emphasized the importance of the off-season strength training and conditioning program.

Zook coached at several other schools including the University of Cincinnati, Virginia Tech, Ohio State, and Florida before arriving in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. He made a few stops in the NFL, too.

BGSU Strength Clinic Wrap-up & Podcast

Oie_dsc_0461_2

Aaron Hillman's first strength & condtioning clinic at Bowling Green State Univ  was quite successful as many coaches, athletes and personal trainers walked away from this clinic with useful and applicable information. Longtime University of Michigan strength coach Mike Gittleson (retired) gave a great talk on developing hand and forearm strength. But it was his professor-like demeanor and storytelling abilities that helped to convey his training methods and topic. There's no question why he spent 30 years at the U of M and had the opportunity to work for one of college football's all-time great coaches.... Bo Schembechler. Mike Gittleson's a true master in the field of strength training.

We also heard from Kelly Howe... an assistant at BGSU. She oversees the many of the female athletes and she left no doubt as to the intensity of her workouts! We'll provide further podcasts with Kelly, as well as with Clinic Director Roger LaPointe, and Three time Olympic Weightlifter Fred Lowe.

Today's podcast is a clinic wrap-up with Aaron Hillman (BGSU) and Cincinnati St. Xavier High School Strength Coach Carlo Alvarez.

ASAP PODCAST with Ohio State Strength Coordinator Jeff Uhlenhake

Buckeyes' Director of Football Performance, Eric Lichter answers questions at the coaching clinic as Ted Lambrinides (left) and Jeff Uhlenhake listen in.

Dsc_0102

Today's ASAP~Athletic Strength And Power Podcast features the Strength Coordinator for the Ohio State Buckeyes, Jeff Uhlenhake. Jeff knows about physical training, winning, football... and about Ohio State football. He grew up and played high school football just forty five minutes from the "old giant horseshoe" in Newark, Ohio where he played football for the Newark Catholic Greenwave. He then moved on to playing for the Buckeyes and earned All-America status as a star offensive lineman and captain.  From there he enjoyed a ten year career in the National Football League with the Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints and the Washington Redskins.  He had some stints as a high school head football coach and administrator, coached with Mark Dantonio at the University of Cincinnati and also spent some time as a coach with Cleveland Browns.

But Jeff Uhlenhake doesn't spend a lot of time bragging about his career or playing days....he's more concerned about the Buckeyes and helping out the careers of the current squad! Join ASAP Podcaster Ed Cicale for today's interview

Part 3/3: Ted Lambrinides and Kim Wood Play HardBall in a Discussion about Steroids and Human Growth Hormone

Alg_roger With baseball's Roger Clemens and his personal trainer Brian McNamee dominating much of the current sports pages, ASAP~Athletic Strength And Power, takes it's stand against drug use. The podcast, recorded in Kim Wood's unique home gym, explains the hard facts about steroids and human growth hormone (HGH) by two leading authorities. Ted Lambrinides serves on the NCAA's speakers bureau and has spoken to hundreds of coaches and college athletes, as well as high school coaches and players, too about the perils of steroid use.

While some coaches "looked the other way",  Kim Wood did the opposite. He took a stand. He knew and understood the dangers of the drugs..... often citing that players who delved into steroids were also admitting that they "didn't have what it takes to be a man". Kim retired a few years ago after a 28 year career as an NFL head strength coach for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Dantonio Michigan State's Head Football Coach, Mark Dantonio, delivered an opening statement at the Michigan State Strength & Conditioning clinic and then joined ASAP's Ed Cicale for a podcast about physical training and how it fits into the total scheme for this Big Ten Football program..... and on the art of coaching. Dantonio also spoke about some of the things that MSU hopes to get out of the comprehensive strength program directed by Ken Mannie and the strength staff.

Coach Dantonio was a graduate assistant football coach at Ohio State in 1984, the same time that ASAP Director, Ted Lambrinides was the Assistant Strength Coach for the Buckeyes. Dantonio came back to be the defensive coordinator when Jim Tressel took over the OSU program eventually coaching for the 2002 National Championship Ohio State squad. He then took over as Head Coach at The University of Cincinnati before heading to East Lansing and Michigan State.
