"ENSE" Takes Training to The Next level: Chris Ensminger at "The Workout"

Ense 2 As the basketball playoffs approach, one thing is for certain, another off- season is looming. That's when 6'10" Chris Ensminger cranks it up a notch... taking his training to the next level. He's been doing it all his life... in high school playing for Mike Price at Cincinnati Oak Hills High School.... in college at Valparaiso University, where he starred with Bryce Drew and played for Coach Homer Drew.... and then onto a professional career in the Euroleague and Bundesliga, where he presently plays for Paderborn Baskets. Throughout it all, one thing has remained a constant... his diligent, hard work and effort to prepare for the next season on the horizon....
"ENSE" is a regular at The Workout @ Covington during the off-season, logging many a training session consisting of strength training, agility training, speed and quickness drills, core emphasis, and interval training.
It's all part of the lifestyle for the 210 centimeter Ensminger.... preseason games and training...regular season and playoffs....then "we take a couple weeks off...come back to the United States.....and then start working 'immediately' once we're back in Cincinnati with Coach C and Ted Lambrinides at The Workout"

ASAP at East Lansing: Michigan State vs Ohio State

    Oie_spartan_stadium_036_2

Proper techniques need to be mastered by athletes through the execution of many repetitions over a long period of time.

Speed does not develop after just a week or two of drills. Months of hard training and the execution of hundreds of drills can help an athlete to be ready to perform at peak levels.

ASAP~Athletic Strength And Power went on location to East Lansing, Michigan to witness some of the finest conditioned college football athletes. Michigan State vs Ohio State. Both programs develop top notch athletes. MSU's former star, Plaxico Burress made some stellar catches in last year's Super Bowl victory for the New York Giants. Thirty former Buckeyes are presently on NFL rosters.

Movement patterns, pre-game drills, and flexibility training techniques were closely examined, photographed and video taped for further study. In future blog posts, ASAP will share some of the findings observed by athletes trained under MSU's Ken Mannie, Mike Vorkapich, Tommy Hoke and Tim Wakeham. And those Buckeyes trained by Eric Lichter, Jeff Uhlenhake and Doug Davis.

ASAP Strength Training Podcast; Squat Technique with Three Time Olympian Weightlifter Fred Lowe

Squats Fred Lowe knows what he's talking about. He won his first Senior Nationals in Olympic style weightlifting in 1969, and went on to win a total of seven Nationals. He held the US National Record in the clean & jerk for 22 years and was voted as one of the lifters of the decade for the 1970s. He is still the lightest weight US athlete to clean & jerk over 400 pounds, which he did in the 165 pound class. He was on three Olympic teams: 1968, 1972, and 1976. After a layoff from 1983 to 1993, Fred started Masters level weightlifting. He has competed in 3 Senior Nationals since that time and in 1997 took a bronze, becoming the oldest man to medal in a US Senior Nationals.

If you want to learn proper squat technique, who better to learn from then a three time Olympian.  ASAP Podcaster Ed Cicale talks technique with Fred Lowe in today's podcast. Just click on the ASAP PODCAST Logo below:

The Workout@Covington Adds The Shuttle MVP Plyometric Trainer

    Principals_026_1 Asap_logggooo_57

The Workout @Covington has recently added another piece of training equipment called The Shuttle MVP. This equipment allows for:

    • low impact plyometric training
    • performance training
    • functional training

    Principals_020

The Shuttle MVP reduces training stress on the spine, the knees and the foot and gives athletes a chance to increase lower body power and explosion, while at the same time, it allows lower body power to increase.... the payoff is improved sprinting, jumping and acceleration. Take your training program to the Next Level!! Contact the staff at The Workout @Covington, including trainer/coach Chad Fields (photos) who is shown performing some functional plyometrics training on the Shuttle MVP.Principals_015
