It's almost that time again.... baseball. The major leaguers are in Florida and Arizona right now working on the little things. Some are working on even bigger things, like making the roster. Albert Pujols is getting focused on putting good wood on the ball.... Bronson Arroyo is prepping that high kick delivery for another 200 inning season.
In this day and age, baseball players grasp for every edge that's available. Being in great physical condition is one way to prep oneself to be the best. That's where a well designed strength training program can pay dividends in a season that stretches to over 162 games. Sunflower seeds will be on hand.... and plenty of One Source Optimal Nutrition, a popular drink, will be used as a recovery aid. Studies have shown that chocolate milk is a great post workout drink. One Source has a little extra protein and nutrients... a great taste and a is packaged for a 12 month shelf.... life without refrigeration requirements!
Check out today's video. It's Part 1 of 2....and Reds Strength Coach Matt Krause gives us a behind the scenes tour of the training facilities at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio

As a teacher and coach, I have had the opportunity to read and review hundreds of books over the years. Books on athletes and coaches...books about specific sports and the techniques and skills necessary to perform better....books on physical conditioning and strength training....and coaching philosophy books, too. Interestingly, one book that I have found myself reaching for a lot since it came to print a couple of years ago is Jim Tressel's (with Chris Fabry) "The Winners Manual". Coach Tressel's players are given a Winners Manual and the book is based on that actual manual that the players receive. I've found it to be a great teaching tool and would definitely be a benefit to any coach, no matter the age or coaching pedigree. I particularly like Part Two titled "The Big Ten Fundamentals"....great stuff for teaching young people about the important things in life.
If you find yourself interested in this type of reading, just click on the book cover which links right to the "bookstore". By the way, the book is packed with tons of great quotations and a very nice Foreword by John Maxwell, a well known leadership author and speaker.
