Click on the Bengal Logo for Geof Hobson's story on the Clinic!
Cincinnati Bengal beat writer Geof Hobson termed it "the Woodstock of strength training"...Kim Wood's "LEGENDS" training clinic which was truly a "Meeting of the Tribes" session. Strength coaches from seemingly everywhere attended. The theme for this year's clinic... and Kim Wood plans to have more..... was to create a new sense of awareness for training of the neck musculature. Michigan man Mike Gittleson was there. It's like he never retired. He's still studying strength training like a scientist. NFL Hall of Famer Anthony Munoz attended....looks like he could still play. The Bengals probably wish he could! Longtime strength coach Dan Riley was there. His teams went to four Super Bowls! His answer is a humble " I never tackled anyone." Yet, he played a significant role in getting those squads in superior condition. Coach Mark Asanovich gave a high impact lecture. He's no-nonsense and very articulate. John Wood talked Hand Strength. The crowd was filled with notables..... Ellington Darden, Jim Flanagan, Joe Cirullo, Roger Schwab. Rock Oliver was there from the Unversity of Kentucky taking notes.Ben Oldham, the SEC Football Game Official and Rules Committee member was there as a speaker...and he made sure everyone played by the rules. Although, I think Kim Wood's daughter, Jackie kept her dad in check!
Stanford University Strength Coach Kevin Tolbert came from the West Coast and Miami University Athletic Director Brad Bates represented the Redhawks.
Ted Lambrinides came up from Lexington after UK Wildcat workouts. Mike Vorkapich from Michigan State. Aaron Hillmann from Michigan. Dave Andrews from the University of Cincinnati. Scott Savor-University of Tennessee, after a training session at The Workout at Covington and lunch at City Barbecue was there too with Biko and Denny Locascio from Sports and Field in Tampa. Baltimore Ravens Strength Staff Bob Rogucki and John Dunn were gathering information for their squad. Former Buckeye National Champ Strength Coach Al Johnson: present. Smarter Team Training's Rob Taylor came in from Maryland. And, Dir of Strength Training, Brent Rogers from the College of Mt. St. Joseph was there getting some ideas for his program. Carlo Alvarez from Cincinnati St. Xavier High School, Ted Rath Asst from the Detroit Lions: check. Florida Asst Scott Holshopple represented the Gators. Scott Hayes made the drive down I-75 from Fowlersville (Michigan) H.S. Football. And, of course Mike Shibinski, Cincinnati Elder High School's new Defensive Back Coach attended and was picking up some shoulder training tips.
