Improvement

Back in 1968... a year in which the Buckeyes won the National Championship, Woody Hayes had a defensive backfield coach who stated things in pretty simple terms.....this one on improvement:

All teams, both winning and losing ones, spend about the same amount of time practicing and training, but the important consideration is to see that improvement takes place. Repetition does not make improvement. Improvement will result only when you make a continual effort to improve.

Detroit Lions Strength Training

You may have missed the Detroit Lions Strength Clinic last February, let me say this, it was practically standing room only and very informative. Head Strength Coach Jason Arapoff hosted a great clinic with plenty of amenities... a nice rotation format to hear and see the featured speakers in a smaller group-size format and, a chance for the average guy to get an inside look at one of the nicer NFL training complexes that you'll see anywhere.
Complimenting Coach Arapoff were the speakers.... Jim Kielbaso of Director of Total Performance Training Center, Ted Lambrinides Strength Coach University of Kentucky Wildcats, and Ted Rath; Detroit Lions Strength & Conditioning Assistant.

ASAP Podcast with Illinois Head Football Coach Ron Zook

Presently, the University of Illinois Football team is ranked #16 in the country. The Fighting Illini are in first place in the Big Ten Conference LEADERS Division with a perfect 6-0 record. This week they'll host the Ohio State Buckeyes who will try to prevent a third staight loss. Meanwhile, Coach Ron Zook is doing a fine job of teaching his 2011 team how to compete.

Coach Ron Zook spent some time last spring with ASAP Podcaster Ed Cicale.... discussing a little bit about his days at Miami University (Ohio), known as the "Cradle of Coaches," where the Redskins only lost one game in three seasons while he played defensive back there. Coach also emphasized the importance of the off-season strength training and conditioning program.

Zook coached at several other schools including the University of Cincinnati, Virginia Tech, Ohio State, and Florida before arriving in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. He made a few stops in the NFL, too.
