Strength coaches, fitness enthusiasts, and weightroom aficianados will be able to appreciate the accompanying video with this blogpost. I recently visited the Ohio State University and Les Wexnar Football Complex located at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. That's where the Buckeye Football program is going through its big transition phase. Head Coach Urban Meyer didn't hesitate to make Mickey Marotti his first hire to his coaching staff. Marotti was a GA at Ohio State once, an assistant strength coach at West Virginia, strength coached the Bearcats at Cincinnati.....Notre Dame's Fighting Irish and of course, the Florida Gators . Now, like Urban Meyer, he has gone full circle, returning to his alma mater. Marotti takes on added roles in Columbus now, becoming an Assistant Athletic Director for Football Sports Performance.
Once Mickey arrived in C-bus, he assembled a staff made up of Associate Director Rick Court, and strength staff Kenny Parker, Jeff Uhlenhake and Anthony Schlegel. From there, the change was on! They made some adjustments by adding the necessary tools to the toolbox, some Rogers Athletic Pendulum Equipment....Hammer Strength, Shuttle MVPs, and some Pit Belt Squat devices. More changes are in store, but for now, the football squad is priority one. The first drastic change that I noticed from years past is that the offensive linemen had made huge advances in physical appearance. Gone were the wide girths.... these guys look fit and are becoming a strong bunch. The winter conditioning program has already paid dividends and the rest of the team is quite excited about the new strength and conditioning program and the results that thay have seen. The two scrimmage sessions that I watched were enough to surmise that superior conditioning is a must at OSU. Coach Meyer's offense and practices are fast and furious and demand being in great shape.
So, join Coach Rick Court and I as we take a quick tour around their facility where one of the more storied programs in all of college football completes their training.
