Former Miami DL Ken Hauck (photo right) joined me last week as we checked in on the Miami University Redhawks in Oxford, Ohio. Hauck was quite impressed as he surveyed the updated facilities that have changed since his era. Back in the 70s, weight rooms were not quite the collegiate strength training complexes that are the norm today.... though the training regimen, under then Head Coach Bill Mallory, helped Miami beat the Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs and South Carolina Gamecocks in consecutive bowl game appearances. Not too bad! Mallory... part of that "Cradle of Coaches".
Here's a few pics from the trip that includes some of the "Cradle of Coaches" statues and plaques. Soon, I'll have the video tour of the Walter Gross & Family Athlete Development Center, which is their state of the art training complex. That's where Director of Strength & Conditioning, Paul Harker, works his craft. Harker played football at Michigan State, then furthered his studies as a Graduate Assistant strength coach under Coach Ken Mannie. Now under Head Football Coach Don Treadwell, Harker will try to push the Redhawks harder and higher.
With the Walter Gross Athlete Development Center in the background, Paul Harker supervises a morning conditioning program for the football squad at Yager Stadium.
