As a physical education instructor, strength training teacher, strength coach and personal trainer for nearly thirty years I have had the opportunity to use and review a multitude of books on strength training & conditioning. Only now and then does a book come across my desk that I can truly give two thumbs up! "A Practical Approach to Strength Training," the Fourth Edition is actually the 25th Anniversary of author Matt Brzycki's book writing career. This one is a Five Star Rating.
It's a comprehensive addition to anyone's strength training library....and once you add this one, you can probably toss out a few of the ones on some of your shelves.
This book would be my main textbook if I were to be a college instructor of strength training. At the same time, it would not be considered too stringent for the high school student. The text covers all the bases and and does a superb job of explaining anatomy and exercise physiology, intermediate and advanced training programs, and nutrition, too. The book is also packed with plenty of photos that serve an explanatory function... not the hyped-up, drug induced, photo shopped pics one might see in those body building magazines.
The information is not opinionated.... it's evidence-based, peer reviewed information, techniques and advice for a sound, prudent training program.
