Okay.... here's the disclaimer! I wouldn't suggest adjusting your treadmill to the settings that Coach Mannie and the Michigan State Football Strength Staff have....unless you've been training like a Spartan. It's not fun and games in the Duffy Daughtery Football Building in East Lansing, Michigan. The Staff: Tommy Hoke, Lorenzo Guess, Bill Burghardt..... they're all pushing, driving and motivating the players to reach their full potential. Check out the video and you'll see a few of the athletes performing the "Hills on Mills" routine.
For starters, you'll need a Woodway type treadmill, disengage the gearing mechanism so that the running deck flys freely and then adjust the incline to 25%. After grabbing hold of the handles, begin walking for about ten seconds....then proceed to a jog....and finally the "all out" phase... GO FULL SPEED for at least five seconds and try to crank out 15...16... maybe even getting to 17 MPH. Decelerate and continue on for several reps depending on you or your athletes' conditioning level.
