Coach Butch Jones is getting a serious foothold down in Knoxville. The guy seems to have a motor that can hang at interstate speeds while the rest of us just make our way through the residential districts. As per usual, and despite a probable overfilled Google Calendar, Jones stopped in to the University of Tennessee Strength & Conditioning Clinic to share some coaching ideas and help motivate and encourage a great turnout at the clinic. Meanwhile, Head Strength Coach Dave Lawson kept the clinic on pace while Asst Michael Szerszen kept a close watch on his wife who was about to give birth at any second! The speakers, who included ASAP Sports Science Director Ted Lambrinides, did a very nice job. And, this year, U.T. added former U.S. Marine Eric Kapitulik of THE PROGRAM who gave a very interesting talk on leadership development. Clemson's Strength Coach Joey Batson and Georgia Southern's Kyle Speer did super jobs of explaining how they train their athletes for their respective universities. Also, while I was there, I caught the Vols in training....here's some of the photos!
The Buckeyes are fresh off of their 2014 National Championship victory over the Oregon Ducks and still living the dream. However, Coach Mickey Marotti, the squad's Assistant A.D. for Football Sports Performance, seems to have filed that great season to the past and is directing the Buckeyes' "GRIND" toward preparation for the coming season. They've added a few mid-year arrivals to a big returning group of Buckeyes and it will come as no surprise that Ohio State will be the 2015 Pre-Season #1 team in college football. Urban Meyer's Ohio State team has tweaked a few things this year already, including how they go about the daily grind. In fact, the newly revised training and practice schedule has already made a huge difference.
That being said, it's business as usual as Assistant Strength Coach Jeff Uhlenhake prepares for the Ohio State Football Speed Strength & Conditioning Clinic to be held on Saturday, March 7th, 2015 at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center on the campus of the Ohio State University. The speakers for the Buckeye Strength Clinic are the OSU Strength Staff along with former Ohio State Assistant Strength Coach, now ASAP Sports Science Director Ted Lambrinides and former grad assistant and current Cincinnati Bengals' Strength Coach Chip Morton. So, all staff speakers are directly connected to the Buckeyes! The clinic is designed to help you in many areas of athlete development. Those areas include, but are not limited to, Functional Movement, Prehabilitation, Elements of Rest and Recovery, Upper and Lower Body Training the OSU Way, and motivational factors applying to both the individual and team. Registration is from 8am-9am with bagels and coffee included. Lectures begin at 9am and go thru 3pm with a short lunch break at noon (lunch provided).
