A recent ASAP visit to the University of South Carolina with Basketball Strength Coach Scott Greenawalt found the Gamecocks hitting it hard on a leg day. We've shared some past video from Columbia, SC...like last 2014 and of course this RDL variation. Don't forget the Dumbell Step-ups Video. Front squats with the log bar looks like a great way to teach proper form. Things just seem to fall into proper place. Here's a few cell phone pics. Our good friend, John Wood, at Functional Hand Strength does logbar sales, in case you're interested!
College football teams have their countdown clocks swirling right now! The Buckeyes seem to be ironing out their quarterback derby. Superstar Braxton Miller is about to cause fits for opposing Defensive Coordinators as he settles in to a position change. Those Texas teams didn't go away... TCU and Baylor have some serious business that they want to deal with. The Oregon Ducks lost their Heisman winning quarterback to the NFL and have an early season appointment in East Lansing against at a Michigan State team that has a chip on it's shoulder.....They really do! And down in Starkville Dak Prescott and those Mississippi State Bulldogs will attempt to get cowbells heard much like they did last year as they spent six weeks at the #1 ranking position. The two teams in the desert are sure to decide some big things this year but the Arizona Wildcats do have to travel to Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe this season against Arizona State! And, what's going to happen in Ann Arbor? The Big House will be host to some big changes that were made at Michigan back in January. Here we go!
Oh yeah, and one other team that definitely needs mention is the Tennessee Vols! It's been really interesting to watch the slow transformation.... 'brick by brick'.... that Butch Jones has engineered. His exciting quarterback, Joshua Dobbs- an aerospace engineering major- and that hard hitting defense should really get Rocky Top going a whole lot along the Tennessee River in Knoxville! Better make reservations at Calhoun's a little sooner this year. Especially when Oklahoma comes to town. Wow! Tennessee.... back in the national conversation in 2015.
Our 2015 ASAP Strength Tour led us once again to America's Deep South. It's a far cry from Vermont or even somewhere like Cincinnati. And, it's downright hot and humid down there! But that doesn't seem to phase the Mississippi State Bulldogs at all. In fact, they seem to thrive in it. One thing is for certain, their opponents better be training for those types of conditions if they're planning a trip to Starkville. Anyway, we caught up with Head Strength & Conditioning Coach Rick Court, the guy who masterminds the training regimen for the 'Dawgs. Coach donned a long sleeved white Adidas climate control shirt underneath his official Mississippi State Bulldogs Football shirt. He comes out of the gates at full speed and doesn't stop to catch his breath until a group workout ends. Then, he recharges and is ready to go for the next group. He flat out loves the strength coaching profession. We have known about him since his G.A. days at Bowling Green, then Toledo and San Diego State. Ohio State..... and now he's settled in at Mississippi State. Coach Court has a full grasp of how to prepare college football players and is always willing to share his knowledge of training with other coaches and those involved with college athletics. In our ASAP Podcast, Coach Court tells us what the Bulldogs have been up to, information about today's workout session and how they are prepping for the 2015 campaign.
