Our next stop lead us to Clemson, South Carolina. The home of the Clemson Tigers, runner-up to last year's National Championship, it's also the home (actually Pendleton, S.C.) of the Smokin' Pig BBQ! Plan accordingly though if you want to enjoy this great place, it's only open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. They spend the other days prepping for those three days! This may have been the best brisket ever. It's a must stop for BBQ lovers and lots of pure protein for a post training meal. While you are there, treat yourself to the Sweet Potato Crunch. One word: WOW
Prior to helping The Smoking Pig open up, we spent the morning with the Clemson Tigers! That included watching the squad load up on the shuttle from the stadium strength training complex over to their indoor. We also got to see some of the construction site of the new football complex, which is set to become the most incredible environment in all of college football. They are not leaving anything out with this configuration. The team went through a series of dynamic warm-ups and then moved to many of the assessments used to measure football speed and agility. The strength staff recorded all of the data as the team, which appeared FOCUSED, zipped through the tests.
From there, it was back onto the shuttle for the quick ride back to Clemson Memorial Stadium.... known to many as "Death Valley". That's where the Tigers went into to strength training mode and Head Strength Coach Joey Batson and his staff that includes his long time assistant, Larry Greenlee directed and coached one of college football's elite programs. These two have been training Tigers together for over 16 seasons. We were able to sit down with Coach Greenlee, set up our remote location recording studio and talk 'training' with the coach who also is a Clemson graduate and former athlete there, too.
