ASAP~Athletic Strength And Power made the visit to Columbia, South Carolina this summer to check in on their new director of Football Strength & Conditioning Jeff Dillman. After we caught a quick breakfast sandwich at Bojangles, we headed over to the University of South Carolina's Brice-Williams Stadium, a towering place that's typical of the huge stadiums encountered in SEC Football. The Gamecocks' football strength training center is located at the north end, just a few yards from the palm trees and a line of Cockabooses that are a huge hit with the tailgating crowd on gameday.
It was warming up outside that day as the mercury cruised up toward 99 degrees! But the heat didn't affect Coach Dillman...nor the Gamecocks as the session began within the spacious football strength complex . The players filed in and before long the strength staff had it all at full tilt as the players hit their stations and the training began. Meanwhile, the nutrition staff prepped workout recovery drinks, vitamins and hydration options for this SEC squad that opens up at Vanderbilt University in just a few weeks.
After the workout, Coach Dillman and I slipped into his strength office, which I had turned into a makeshift recording studio, for this candid interview. I was also able to snag a few pieces of bubble gum that's piled high in an official South Carolina Gamecocks bucket. We discus that and the training that has been going on at South Carolina Football:
